Vacation in Bend with 15 month old Baby

We plan to spend the first weekend in May in Bend on our 4th Marriage Anniversary. Need help with some ideas on some fun things to do in Bend, given we have a baby with us. We are coming from Portland Metro area. Some of the things I have so far:

1) Drive to Bend from Portland and do some photography in Lavender Farms on the way - what are some good lavender farms?

2) Tubing in Mt Bachelor

3) Spa for the lady! given that its our anniversary:)

ideas about some good places and deals?

4) Boating - ideas about some family friendly places??

Any interesting local events happening on the May 6th weekend?

We've been to the Bend area once before and loves it. Been to Painted hills, Lava Butte etc.

Battle Ground...

Found this online: http://oregonlavender.org/index.php . Lavender doesn't bloom until June.

Sorry to say, tubing at Mt. Bachelor will not be running in May. However, there is a snowplay area at Wanoga Sno-park between Mt. Bachelor and Bend that has a gentle sledding hill. If you bring a couple of snow discs that might be more appropriate with little one in tow anyway.

Spas: Jinsei, Anjou and Spa W all are nice ones.

Boating in early May is pretty dicey. There still will be a lot of snow in the mountains and the river is pretty cold! I don't know if the marina at Lake Billy Chinook north of Bend is open. You might call them to see (877-546-7171). It's lower and warmer than Bend so you might be able to do some boating there.

One thing fun is the High Desert Museum located just south of Bend on Hwy 97. Your baby should like seeing the animals and probably will be able to use some of the play structures they have there. It's a great attraction for adults too. A new walk-through, hands-on volcano exhibit has just opened.

There are some wonderful playgrounds in town for youngsters. One at Farewell Bend Park is very popular, has a nice riverfront setting and is an good stop on a walk along the river from the Old Mill District.

The event link at visitbend.com is a great source for activities. One thing that will be going on is First Friday on May 6th. Art galleries and other shops will be open late and many will have live music and munchies.

You should be able to fill your weekend with no problem. Have fun and happy anniversary!

I like "the boat park" across from downtown bend. Lots of little ones there.

Best family friendly restaurants are probably Jackson's Corner and Alpenglow.

I like Jinsei Spa but my SIL goes to Spa W often.

Mt Bachelor will be open through Memorial Day, not sure about the tubing hill though. Conditions will probably be wet or icy at Wanoga. There's also a tubing hill at Hoodoo.

Cascade Lakes highway should be open. Amazing photo ops up around the lakes. It's too early for flowers here.

FYI, according to Mt. Bachelor's website, last day for tubing was April 10. Snow play at Wanoga, or anywhere, will be totally weather dependent. Maybe fine, maybe not. There is a lot of snow in the mountains this year and, unless there's a warm spell, the Cascade Lakes Hwy most likely will not be open past Mt. Bachelor. The drive to Mt. Bachelor is still nice, though, with great views!
