Seven Day Vacation in Cannon Beach Area

We (two adults) have a cabin in the Cannon Beach / Arch Cape area for seven days in mid July. We enjoy hiking and exploring more than shopping. Suggestions for hikes (short or up to 10 miles or so) would be appreciated. Also, we want to make a few day trips to explore the area. Would Astoria and Cape Disappointment be a nice day trip? Thanks for any help!

You can definitely do Astoria as a day trip from Cannon Beach. The Maritime Museum, Astoria Column (panoramic views), Fort Clatsop are all nice. There are some trails at Fort Clatsop area.

Fort to Sea Trail which is a nice one to do

You may also want to drive across the bridge and do some of the trails on the Washington side of the Columbia River at Cape Disappointment Park.

Traffic can sometimes be slow between Cannon Beach and Astoria Its still worth the patience and time to go see this area.

Highway 101 from Cannon Beach to Tillamook is a very beautiful stretch of highway. Cape Meares Lighthouse, about 15-20 minutes West of Tillamook, is a very spectacular place.

Another very scenic stretch is from Lincoln City South to Florence especially from Yachats to Florence. Cannon Beach to Florence is about 3 & 1/2 driving hours each way and would make for a long but very beautiful daytrip. If you were interested in going any farther South than Pacific City I would recommend going all the way to Florence.

The Saddle Mountain hike is really good. The trailhead is off of highway 26 about 13 miles before it joins with 101 between Seaside and Cannon Beach. The views from the top are stunning on a clear day. I have seen people do it in sneakers, but I would definitely recommend hiking boots if you have them. There are some areas where people in sneakers have had trouble with stability. The parking lot at the trailhead is small, so go early to avoid crowds.

Astoria and Cape Disappointment are definitely worth exploring! We recently had a very nice dinner in Seaview @ 42nd Cafe if you want a good place to eat in the area. Enjoy your trip! :)
