Portland to Depoe Bay

Hi

We are arriving this coming Wednesday morning to Portland Airport and then picking up a car and driving to Depoe Bay. Do you guys have any recommendations of places to stop along the way? And places to have a nice breakfast? lunch? I love clam chowder and we also love trying new things. We are not picky so your suggestions would be so helpful. Thanks so much.

I don't even know yet, I thought there would only be one way to go.

Depending on what time of day, maybe I-5 to 99W to 18 would be easiest. That would be a great route if you can get out of the airport no later than 1pm or so. Maybe a late lunch at Dundee Bistro on the way down to Depoe Bay?

Once you get to Depoe Bay, don't eat at that restaurant that has the train circling the dining room. I forget what it's called, but trust me and just back away if you happen to walk in there.

Thank you.

Our flight arrives at 930am so it should take about an hour or so to get out of the airport.

The Dundee Bistro is located in the heart of Oregon Wine Country.

Sounds nice..Maybe we can do some wine tasting too...hmmm..

I agree that taking 99 to 18 would be the way to go. It is very scenic and lots of places to stop off if you want.

BTW, on a Wed. morning traffic should be a breeze. There is a much easier way to get onto 99, taking some easy backroads. If you want those directions, I can pm them to you. Just let me know.

Most likely, you would be out of the airport in under 30 minutes even with picking up a rental car. PDX is small and really easy to navigate, so time is on your side.

Dundee Bistro is good, but I have to make a pitch for one of my favorite places. Just a tad south of there, in McMinnville, is the Wildwood Cafe. It is a breakfast/lunch place. Very good!!!

There is the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museums in McMinnville, which is a nice stop if that interests you at all.

There are several ways to get there, but on a Wed morning in winter I agree Hwys99/18 should be no problem. If you like to gamble you can stop off at Spirit Mountain Casino, lol!

Had to look that one up, oregone . . . it's Chowder Bowl. The Chowder Bowl in Newport is awful IMO, so we've never been to the Depoe Bay one.

The best restaurant by far in Depoe Bay is Tidal Raves. They are very busy so you'll need reservations, they're not inexpensive and they have a fantastic view. Lincoln City is just a few miles north and Newport a few miles south, so there are plenty more dining selections in both those larger towns. Check out the TA reviews section.

well, my wife and two of our adult children have to go to Mo's for clam chowder. Though some do not like it. you should try it because many do like it.

You get in early enough from LA to want breakfast? Original Pancake hous on Barbur Blvd very popular

The Spouting Horn in Depoe Bay is usually pretty good, though the restaurant isn't much to look at.

Dundee Bistro is very good, I have a review of our time there. Try to sample some of the Ponzi wines here, very nice Pinot Noir. Depoe Bay is a scenic area of the coast. I hope you have a great trip! :)
