December in Eugene

My eleven year old daughter and I are planning a ladies weekend getaway in December and we are leaving husband/Dad at home. We have been to Portland before but never to Eugene. Are there any fun places or events I can take my preteen?

Not really. Plus the weather will be cold/wet/windy/snow/freezing, some of the above or all of the above. Since you don't want to go to Portland, if you are set on the Pacific Northwest inspite of our weather, you might consider Long Beach, Washington, Astoria, or Seaside Oregon, or Seattle. Chuck.

Chuck is wrong. Eugene is a very active university town with lots of activities for all ages. Indoor and outdoor, regardless of weather.

For goodness sake. Her daughter is 11. The beach or Seattle will have so much more for her to do that Eugene. Chuck.

Hi Robyn M and welcome to TripAdvisor. We live just a couple of hours from Eugene and are there usually every month or so, plus we always spend about a week there every December!

December weather will be colder than you are used to, and is subject to damp cold fog in winter. That said, it may be relatively warm and dry with maybe just some high clouds. It also may be raining, and there is a *small* chance it might snow, although we've never had it snow when we were there in December.

As far as what to do, there are any number of things! There are several museums of different types in town, you can take a short drive to see interesting covered bridges, and there is some eclectic shopping such as the 5th Street Market and the Down to Earth store (a fun place!)

Here is the the list of attractions - also click on the "Activities" tab for ideas:

Alaska Airlines, United and probably some others fly into Eugene and it's a very pleasant, friendly regional airport :-)

If you will be in Eugene the end of Dec she would probably love the Nutcracker Ballet at the Hult Center Dec 20-22. We live in CA but enjoyed it the last time we visited Eugene at Christmas time.
