Local family events in Klamath Falls, week after July 4 2011

Hello! My family is coming to Klamath Falls from Maine for a family reunion in Mid-July (from Maine!) and we're looking for stuff to do. We're definitely going to do Crater Lake, etc, but I particularly love local festivals or events- stuff like rodeos, specialty food fairs, craft shows- anything that's a unique local event. I've looked for events calendars online, but am not having much luck. Can anyone recommend anything? And short of that.... is there any uniquely local experience that we should not miss?

Here is the schedule for the fairgrounds for July:

Other events - perhaps try contacting the Chamber of Commerce?

There are also Klamath and Tule Lakes south of town that have a lot of birds/wildlife. There is an Historic Landmark in Tule Lake for the WWII Japanese internment camp, but I've never visited so I don't know what is there. It was the largest in the US I believe.

Are you staying at Running Y? or in K Falls?

In addition to Crater Lake Consider Union Creek area and Diamond Lake as places to visit. If you are willing to drive further you can visit Newberry Crater near bend or N Umpqua Hwy with several waterfalls

I have been to the Collier Museum/State park and it is really great for all ages- perfect for a family reunion. We went there on the Living History Day last year and they had a real show with all the working engines and the like...

The park/day use across the highway would make for an excellent picnic spot...

Also consider going to Lava Beds National monument just south in California- if you want to be adventureous and go into a bunch of caves...

Crater Lake is a nice stop, as is Collier State Park.

You can head up to Rocky Point and you can rent canoes and kayaks to paddle the lovely crystal creek canoe trail.

We have numerous outdoor activities to be enjoyed here. You could also rent bicycles from hutch's bicles and head out on the OC & E trail.

You can ride the OC & E trail for an easy jaunt or head out to Moorepark and enjoy more challenging terrain:

You could even head out to do some birding. We have an abundance of birds, as we are in the Pacific Flyway:

I do hope you have a good time in our lovely town.

Best Wishes to you.

Hi City M and welcome to the forum. As you can see by the date of the last post prior to yours, this thread is from last year, so I'm guessing the OP (original poster) has been and gone :-)

... We all miss the dates once in awhile!
