staying in Portland (last week of July)
Save

A friend of mine and I will be flying into Portland the night of July 25th. As I want to save a bit of $$, I won't be renting a car until the next day at National Car which only has an airport location (I get a good rate through my workplace). We'd probably leave sometime Thursday for Seattle.

My question is....where are some good places to stay near the airport that are reasonably priced (is $100/night too unreasonable?) Does the public transportation run later into the evening to other hotels perhaps closer to downtown Portland?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

im not sure about your budget.

but there is the max -light rail - that goes from PDX into downtown and beyond. link below. Its sort of a sucky map, but downtown is sort of between "union station" where it crosses the Willamette river and to PSU (Portland State University). Downtown core is fairly walkable. im not sure of the operating hours for the Max.

there are buses and you maybe able to find a hotel that has shuttle service.

If you look at a map of Portland and near PDX, you will see some major streets, like 82nd avenue and such running N/S and more or less close to the Airport. There maybe some inexpensive places to stay on that strip and then you can look for places along the Max lines too.

Forgot to mention that the flight doesn't get into town until after 11 that night. I've noticed a few hotels that have shuttles (so I can get the car the next day) so that's an option too.

Yeah, several of the hotels in the airport area have free shuttles and they're great. Note that the Red Line of the Max (light rail) has a terminal right in the airport, a station (Cascade Station) at the outdoor shopping mall very close to some of the airport hotels and goes through downtown.

I haven't checked prices but try Aloft.

Frankly some of the airport hotels are just dirty and rundown. I have tried several have NOT been good experiences.
