No car-how to get around Portland.

We arrive by air in Portland for a 3 day weekend. We are considering not renting a car this time around.

My questions are:

1 How to get from airport to Hotel Modera in downtown? What are the options and cost? Is there a certain time that transportation operates?

2. How to get to Moda Center from Hotel Modera on a Friday night and back?

Thanks in advance for advice!

Portland has great public transportation; MAX (the train) Tri Met (bus) and taxis'. You can take MAX from the airport to downtown, and then figure out either Bus or taxi. Chuck.

Yes, public transport is cheap and easy in Portland. Have a look at the TriMet website to orient and to look at payment options.

Using MAX (light rail) is $2.50 for a 2-hour adult fare. Getting to Modera means catching Red Line at lower level of terminal (baggage claim area). The ride is approximately 40-45 minutes to downtown. Once in downtown, I suggest you hop off at Pioneer Place stop, cross 5th Street and catch either a green or yellow going south on 5th. Ride for 1 stop to City Hall, Hotel Modera is a block away. Here's a map: https://goo.gl/maps/Ha8CW OR you can walk from Pioneer Place (only about 6 blocks to hotel)

For Modera to Moda Center use the Yellow or Green rail northbound on 6th Ave, Moda Center is the first stop across the Willamette River (Rose Quarter Transit Center). Again, it's $2.50... or you can buy All-Day fare for $5 (which probably makes the most sense if you don't have a car - fare works on MAX, bus and Streetcar). http://trimet.org/fares/

A helpful map of downtown's transit system: http://trimet.org/maps/citycenter.htm

PS Since you asked for options, taxis are $40+ one-way from PDX to downtown. Depending on traffic, travel time may be as little as 15-20 minutes or more than 30. Cab to Moda Center from hotel is probably in the $10-12 range.
