Planning a visit from mom and 11 year old girl. Need a few suggestions for restaurants and activities that aren't too childish but aren't tediously grown up either.

OMSI, a hike on one of the trails in Forest Heights, streetcar rides, the tram. Restaurants are all over the place, if you give us a little more info on where you are staying we could probably help more. Have a great visit!

I am here. The friend and her 11 year old will be staying in a downtown hotel. I am looking for places that would be enjoyable for the tricky tween age group.

We'll probably stay more or less in the city, as her mom has several business meetings.

My 12 yr old daughter enjoys Powells -- great selection of "tween" books, OMSI, and the zoo. Oaks Amusement Park is good -- not a ton of rides for older kids but enough and there's also roller skating and miniature golf. Bowling is another option. Ground Kontrol has vintage arcade games but kids aren't allowed in after 5pm so if that's on option, go early. We like to take our daughter to McMenamins (Kennedy School or Bagdad) for a second run movie and dinner. You can check their website for what's playing.

Are there any other restaurants that she particularly likes?

She likes Mothers Bistro (good for brunch), Pok Pok (chicken), Porque No? (great fruit aquas), Waffle Window (well, they're waffles) and Tin Shed (brunch) also we always to by Salt and Straw for ice cream although she's not too keen on the "weird" flavors but there are enough "normal" ones for her to enjoy.

Escape From New York has really good pizza if you go to the Nob Hill area. :)
