4 Day Roadtrip Coast/Salem/Bend Recommendations

We are from Mt Hood and next week we will be taking a road trip through these areas. So far, the tentative plan is to go from Mt Hood to Salem, to the Coast, then possibly hwy 20 to Bend, and then back home. Mostly, we will be following weather, so we may end up further north or south during our trip. If weather is good in Hood River, we may stop there before heading home as well.

What I need for all places is great local places for food, cheap nice places to stay (pet friendly, open to staying in yurts), and some things to do.

In Salem we're interested in the wineries, and looking for something that might be a bit different than the ordinary, and we already have a groupon for wine tasting. Any exceptional wineries that stand out for something unique about them? Anything else to do?

We're not sure what to do at the coast. I used to live in CB, and have been all over the north coast, but not much south of lincoln city. We would like to spend some time outdoors and we are open to location. We've heard of renting buggies on the dunes, that sounds a bit fun, any places you'd recommend with great deals? Also, any great hikes or other fun activity suggestions are appreciated.

Anything amazing in Bend or Hood River that you'd love to recommend is also appreciated.

Thanks for the info

We just tasted at Williamette Valley Vineyards today. They have a great outdoor patio there and some great Pinot Noirs. We are in their wine club. :)

I also recommend some cheese tasting at the Willamette Valley Cheese Co tasting room, just north of West Salem. Great cheeses!

Bend is well worth visiting, much to see and to do, especially if coastal weather questionable. You could spend an overnight to take it all in. For the coast, I'd strongly recommend touring from Lincoln City southbound for at least 1, preferably 2, nights to provide time to smell the flowers; a truly beautiful drive and worth exploring.

Having said that, I think your proposed route is a bit rushed but a good one. Using Google Maps, I came up with about 600 miles, 13 hours driving time. I plotted in order, Welches, Lincoln City, Florence, Salem, Bend, Welches.

Sister lodgings in Yachats, Fireside Motel and Overleaf Lodge, both are on this website; often lauded as good lodging, we've used Fireside, their ocean front rooms, on the short bluff. http://www.firesidemotel.com/Fireside_Motel/
