1st time in Oregon from NZ

Hi there

My husband and I are in Portland for 5 days for a quilt trade show, lucky husband, we then plan to travel to Sisters for a night to visit the Stitching Post. We have only 3 days free and have thought about going to Sisters via the Columbia gorge, Mt Hood, Bend and then up to Sisters in one day, then possibly back to Portland via the coast taking 2 days. Is that possible.

We are there in mid May

Yes, that is easily doable:) A nice route too as it is very scenic. Your only problem will be that you will want to stop a lot in the gorge, so just keep an eye on the time so you get to Sisters in time for what you want to do there.

mtngrl is right you can spend a lot of stop time in Gorge Think I would drop Bend and head to Sisters from Redmond. Bend area has a lot to see, but you won't have time. And you can go to coast, maybe to Eugene to Florence then north on 101. maybe overnight in Newport.

Sisters to Bend is around 20 minutes.

As for the coast, it depends on what you are looking for. Usual draws for first time visitors are Newport and Cannon Beach.

A lot to see in Bend area. Newberry Crater, Cascade Lakes SB. But hard to see you might fit that in on day you leave Portland. Guess you could if you make minimal stops in Gorge. Though you might just enjoy a drive throuh Bend to say you were there. Drake Park is kind of nice.

"Drake Park is kind of nice." For some reason this made me laugh.

Yes, the park is nice... but it's a little overrun by geese and their... waste. It's picturesque with Mirror Pond and all the fine old homes, and it might be a view to catch before it's gone since the Newport Dam seems to be doomed.

Sawyer Park, Riverbend, First Street Rapids, and Shevlin Park are all "nice" too... each in their own unique way.
