Greystone Manor....Looks are very deceiving!!

We stayed here recently and were very disappointed! The gardens and pool area are nice but the inside leaves a lot to the imagination. It's very old and is in need of some major renovating. As someone else posted, you don't sleep in the gardens! They need to take care of the rooms and please please clean the rooms including bathroom, please change linens and towels. and not with torn and tattered ones. Please put phones in the rooms along with tissues! There is no counter space for makeup and bathroom necessities in the bathroom. Also bathroom was never cleaned 5 nights!! We had ants and bugs and were told by the Innkeepers to go out and get a cooler for our snacks or you will be bunking down with bugs! EWW! Don't expect to have AC either, the rooms are not equipped with controls and the Innkeepers don't like to to use it, when we asked them to please turn it on during the heatwave in the middle of july they seemed irritated that we asked them and it was never turned on. Oh and they responded to a review we posted and they flat out lied about what we paid for our stay. Please take our advise,STAY AWAY FROM GREYSTONE MANOR!

Wow....thanks for the heads up on this B&B Amishells. We were looking at possibly staying here for a long weekend, but based upon your review as well as others on this forum, we are definitely reconsidering this option!

Do you have any alternate recommendations that we could consider?

Thanks again!!

As much as I hate to say it, 'you get what you pay for'. Though I will admit that there is that occasional good deal out there. The Trip Advisor page for Greystone says average price of $66. What!? And you want clean linens with that? And a box of tissues and good tp?

They also advertise ridiculously low prices for packages on Facebook. Inclusive of buggy rides, wine tasting, scooter rentals, dinner, etc. etc... With prices that low, you have to figure that they're going to be cutting corners somewhere. So, they're going to cut back on things like air-conditioning (electricity), quality of the towels, frequency of washing, etc. It appears that they're not paying the innkeeper much, which is probably the reason for their nasty attitude - probably less than they're paying their groundskeeper.

Furthermore, when you have a property such as this that's not run (or at least visited daily) by the owners, you're not going to get a quality product (usually - of course there are exceptions). There is no excuse for a dirty room, other than laziness.

There were also comments made about providing phones in the rooms. Doesn't just about everyone nowadays have a cell phone?

Kudos to a forum such as this to share information. Hopefully madams77 will be able to find a better place to stay.

responding to JuneBJones....yes your right June...you usually get what you pay for but not in this case. We can only wish we paid $66 a night, we paid $169 + a night. We got nothing, no scooter ride, no wine, no dinner, oh wait they did offer a breakfast served only until 9 am sharp, which we did manage to get to one day of our stay, and I have to admit the crepes were very good, kudos to the cook, (father in law)! Otherwise, our stay there was a huge disappointment! The thing that really bothers us is the fact the Innkeepers came on here and responded to our review and said, "that we only paid $400 for 5 nights, so why complain", how dare they lie, We paid $835.00, half cash and the other half charge, so where did the other $435 go?? Not towards the central air thats for sure! Yes, I am glad for forums like this one to share our stories and opinions. There are some other beautiful places to stay in the Bird In Hand area so I'm sure madams will find a beautiful place just not at The Greystone Manor!

So sorry. Wasn't trying to imply that you necessarily got a cheap rate. But it appears that they obviously don't have the cash flow to provide the basics that are expected (and reasonable).

No, for that price, you should have had a comfortable and pleasant stay. There are lots of other B&Bs will within that price that are clean with nice innkeepers and a/c that works.

Another bad review posted today for this property. Too bad. Looks like people are saying a lot of the same thing...outside is beautiful, but inside is a different story. Too bad. It really is a good location.

Saw yet another bad review posted on Sept 18. Turning out the lights at 9:30??? Funny thing, though, is that there were two relatively good reviews posted in-between and it looks like the owner asked people to post them because the dates of the stay are older and the owner even thanks the one reviewer for 'helping'.

This is disturbing. I sure hope that people looking for a B&B in Lancaster, or maybe folks going to stay at one for the first time, DON'T judge all B&B's based on the reviews of this property.
