First Timer: Splash Lagoon and Grove City

My family was planning on driving to PA. We would like to shop at Grove City for a day and go to Splash Lagoon another, staying overnight for 2 nights.

This is our first time so we don't know where to start.

How far of a drive is Grove City to Splash Lagoon?

Should we stay in a hotel (if so which one) near Grove City and then drive to Splash Lagoon and stay in Erie (how's Holiday Inn Express?)?

Any advice from seasoned Grove City shoppers and Splash Lagoon fans would be much appreciated.

We are driving from Toronto, Canada. Is the week of August 24 - 30 considered peak season?

Thanks in advance.

Grove City is about one hour and ten minutes from Splash Lagoon. There are nice hotels at either Grove City or Splash Lagoon, so I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

I was told that the Holiday Inn adjoining Splash Lagoon is nice, although sometimes noisy because of the large number of kids staying there. But it's very convenient if you are going to Splash Lagoon because it is attached. Also, during busy times, hotel customers have first chance at tickets (they only admit a set amount of people into Splash Lagoon). Don't think that this will be a problem though. Most of the schools in Erie will be opening that week, so attendance should be down, at least a little.

My husband has stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Grove City and he thought it was a nice hotel also.
