What are areas to avoid in Erie for two lady travelers

This weekend my daughter and I are traveling to Erie / Presque Isle State Park, for 4 days 3 nights, we would like to do some beach going catch some sights and visit the wineries, we are staying at the Comfort Inn Presque Isle on 12th street. Can anyone advise what areas to avoid itis just the two of us traveling and I obviously don't want us to end up in any if any bad areas of town. Is 12th street where the hotel is nice??? Any advice would be great. Also we are traveling from Ohio a suburb of Cleveland and yes we have some areas of concern in our town that I would advise folks visiting to avoid so can I get a real honest response on this one please.... Everyone on tripadvisor is always great so I am counting on some good advice to take with me to this lovely town. This is time sensitive so any advice asap would be awesome!!!!!! Thanks again all.

Although I have been to Waldameer several times, I am not sure what areas in Erie are considered good or bad. These map websites may be of assistance: http://www.goerie.com/section/crime01 and http://spotcrime.com/pa/erie

The only thing I've ever heard about was the area of downtown east of State St. There's not much there to see, anyway. Most of Erie's downtown attractions and restaurants seem to be on State St. or west, with a few on the northern end of Parade St. Even with that said, I was just in Erie in April and I don't think there's much to worry about.

The area where your hotel is located is fine. There are restaurants and shopping/stores in that area as well as on the upper end of Peach Street and the Interchange Road area.

I would second the suggestion to stay west of State Street. Downtown Erie during the daytime should be fine. We visited in April, and enjoyed the area. Like any larger city, always be aware of your surroundings.

Where you are staying is nice and close to the beach, but you make like to stay at a hotel near Peach St. or the Casino. Reason being: Peach street is busy and has tons of restaurants and shopping and it goes all the way North to the Dock so if you want something else to do at Night all of your options are on a straight street where there is NO WAY to get lost....Now, if you don't like all the traffic but still want to keep close to the Peach St area you may want to stay one exit east which is rte 97 where the Casino is located. It is very safe, has nice hotels but doesn't have all the hustle and bustle traffic Peach St does. It is also much cheaper and has an amazing Italian restaurant that is called Barbatos (which delivers to all the hotels and if you dine-in you can take your own alcoholic beverage)!! You can take I-90 to I-79 VERY EASILY to get to the beach! And I-90 to Northeast is super easy too (that's where all the wineries are. Hotels on Rte 97 are Days Inn, Super 8, Quality, Red Roof ( I would reccommend the Days Inn!!) Now where to avoid, if you do downtown area stay on State St. If you go to the East of State from 1st-30th, those are your problem neighborhoods. If you need anything else let me know!

I would suggest staying somewhere on Peach Street, closer to I-90. It is still close enough to get to Presque Isle. There is lots of shopping and dining on Peach Street. Do not even consider the El Patio on W 8th Street. It is probably the closest to Waldameer, it is quite possibly the worst place I've ever stayed in.
