Parking in town possible closer than the car park?

Someone asked a ? last March re: parking in Castle Combe and this was the response: "The parking area in Castle Combe is at the top of the hill at the north end of the village. Easy to get down but a hefty climb back up if you are not a great walker. Sometimes, if it's on a quiet day, there may be a place to slot it near the public toilets at the south entrance to the village but if it's a weekend, forget it."

Could someone please elaborate on what is meant about finding a place to park near the public toilets? We'll be coming from Bath. Would we just drive through the middle of town, since at this point in our journey a bathroom would be a welcome break and with a recent foot injury, I'd prefer to not have a hefty climb back up to the carpark? We'll be arriving early afternoon on Thurs. May 10th. Thanks for your help.

Generally, the expression "find a place to park" means look for your intended destination (in this case the public toilets) and when you find that, look for a space at the road side where you can park the car, at the roadside. The 'place to park' almost certainly won't be a car park and you may have to be aware of some kind of restriction on parking - look at nearby signs and/or look for single or double yellow lines. You may be able to find them by using Google Map's Street View facility.

Hi there

As far as I recall, the centre of CC is mainly double yellow lines meaning there's no parking. It's also very narrow hence the parking restrictions. It's easy enough to drive down there though and you can turn round by the old market cross so just get the driver to drop you there, then he can drive back up to the car park. When you're finished, he can walk to the car and nip back down for you.

Didn't they film a scene from War Horse in Castle Combe?

Lots of planning must also have gone into that........
