Providence Lodge vs Snowy Mountains Hotel

We are planning our first weekend to the snow and have decided on Mt Selwyn as seems to be more geared to towards novices and children (we have a 3 and 5 yo). We don't actually plan on skiiing just snow tubing and having some fun!

Trying to decide on accommodation between Providence Lodge which is close to the snowfield (however looks budget) and includes dinner and breakfast or the Snowy Mountains Hotel which is further away however looks nicer (?) and your food is not limited to the one place.

Has anyone stayed at either and if you have stayed at the Providence what is the food like? Or any other suggestions.

Thanks

We Just came back from Providence Lodge, and yes while it is "budget" it is overly comfortable and the cooking is delicious! It beats coming home from the snow to then have to go out and buy or cook food. The lodge is warm and laid back. Its nice going to dinner in your ugg boots and track pants after a hard day on the snow!!! Even better its only 25min to the snow!!!

Thanks for the reply! That's great to hear as I took a gamble and booked Providence Lodge and are heading there this weekend. Good to hear the food was nice as well as that was a concern. What time did they serve dinner by the way? And I agree love the idea of not cooking and 'dressing up' for dinner!!

Dinner was 6.30pm and Breakfast 7.30am. However cold breakfast is available earlier and I'm sure if you ask Wayne and Kris could arrange a little earlier!

They are fantastic people! Friendly and ask to see Annie... She is a cutie!
