more likely you will find more open in Byron than the other towns you mention.

Todays Northern star newspaper listed (page 6) some (NOT ALL) open/closed including two supermarkets, SPAR, Ballina 9am-2pm and Foodworks Bangalow 6.30am-9pm. They listed restaurants open, but then added fully booked for most, except one in Lismore, HoHo Chinese with a seafood buffet....however I am sure if you ask locally where you are staying someone will tell you of more.

definitely more a do it yourself, scenic outing day than tourist business attractions day. I'd pack a picnic from one of the supermarkets and find a nice vantage point - Byron lighthouse maybe, or one of the beaches (out of town mightbe less crowded, just be aware at least two are clothing optional). Or with a car a drive to the Border Ranges national park, via Nimbin.

Buy any alcohol tonight as bottle shops wont open,.
