We are a young married couple (28 & no kids) wanting a warm sunny break from Melb. Don't know much about QLD (did GC when I was 10 but don't remember much). Staying at Mantra Salt Beach hotel room (no kitchen) & renting a small car.
We did a 3 day trip to Mooloolaba last year & drove up to Noosa also for a day & just loved it.
Wanted something similar this year (5 nights) & Byron was appealing but a bit too expensive so Kingscliff was recommended.
I was delighted to read that Byron Bay is only a 30-40 minute drive from Kingscliff!
Definitely driving up to Byron for a day trip or two (also heard pubs/live bands are good at night? - which ones?). What are the must see/do things for Byron?
Trying to stick to a budget & not huge "adventure people" but want to see as much (of nature) as possible as well as have some fun & see some night life. Will need to mix up the 'eating out' options also (a few nice restaurants but some cheaper options also for brekkie/lunch/dinner) - even happy to eat in GC/Byron when we have our full day trips as Kingscliff might have limited options?
Mostly I think we will spend our time exploring/driving to find nicer little areas of the beach (coastal drive) to stop & swim/take photos of scenery/views.
Plan to visit a couple theme parks (might buy the $125 pass which includes wet & wild, sea world & movie world) - will most likely only see 2 of them depending how long you need to allocate to each one & (not so keen on movie world).
Trying to keep it affordable & not spend too much time at theme parks - preferably 1-2 days).
Want to visit CG but not sure what the "must see/do" things are in order to make the most of it (happy to visit more than once if there's a lot to do/see).
We wanted to stay on a nicer beach & within walking distance to an esplanade of restaurants/cafes/boutiques for relaxing strolls & a meal/coffee etc to break up the trip.
Also - where is the best/cheapest place to swim with dolphins & how much approx?
Appreciate ANY advice in order to maximise our trip as we don't get away often!
