I'm looking at heading to Byron Bay in July this year is it worth going in winter?

Yes, it is lovely any time of the year! If you don't mind the water a bit cool you can still swim in the ocean. But there's lots of walking, whale & dolphin watching, skydiving & markets etc all year round. You can take a drive out to the out to the nearby villages and the Tweed Valley is also just a short drive away. It is also the best time to snap up bargain accommodation, being off season.

Well, swimming in winter may be stretching it a bit unless you have a wetsuit. But it's a gorgeous part of the country and has lots of other things to do. Watching the whales swim by Cape Byron can occupy you for hours. Great area for walking. I prefer it 'out of season'. Not so many tourists.
