Visit Amish Village

Are there suggestions for which type of Amish village or tour to take to experience Amish culture? We have about half a day and would like our experience to be as authentic as possible.

Well, half a day is not much time.

As you may know, the Amish do not live in villages but spread out on farms and rural dwellings throughout most of the county.

The tour I reccomnend is that given by the Mennonite Information Center www.mennoniteinfoctr.com

A Mennonite guide rides in your car, for two hours or longer directing you on the backroads to Amish businesses where you can stop and interact with the proprietors. All tour guides have a Mennonite background and are knowledganble and respectful of the Amish.

Not offered Sunday, of course,

If you want to tour a recreated Amish house and Farm, there are three- The Amish Homestead, Amish Farm and Amish Village. Aside fron the retired Amish school teacher that I believe all have present at their schoolhouse, there will not be any Amish folks at any of these sites.

Just thought to add- the slideshow presentation at the Mennonite Information Center gives a good overview of the Amish. It would set the stage for your tour.
