New Hope--overnight or just spend a few hours?

On a road trip, we will driving from Old Saybrooke, Ct to Ephrata, Pa. That drive is less than 5 hours (unless we get hung up in traffic around NYC!). Hopefully we could spend 2 hours in New Hope.

Should we have lunch, walk around New Hope/Lambertville for a few hours then spend the night in Ephrata or is there enough to see in New Hope that it would merit spending the night?

Finding a pet friendly pleasant historic inn has been most difficut. Finally I found the Wedgewood in New Hope. Would that be a good choice if we stay overnight?

We are NOT antique people at all. Are there shops other than antiques?

A few hours to stroll and have lunch should be fine. There are no antique shops in New Hope. It's mostly tenn clothing, art galleries, and novelty shops.

It's not so much New Hope itself, rather touristy, but the surrounding area which is lovely. Canals, side road drives, old stone homes, a small farm or so, parks, etc. It is different form Ephrata because of the Quaker rather than German influence. .Worth an hour or two backroad rive.

There is actually quite a lot in New Hope, as well as in Lambertville NJ, which is right across the Delaware River from New Hope. I have been to Epherta and I have to say that there is more to do in the New Hope area then in Epherta. There are several nearby museums, check out the Mercer Museum, (about 15 min outside of NH) it is great! http://www.mercermuseum.org/

New Hope and Lambertville have a ton of all types of shops, (No antique shops in New Hope, and there is a few in Lambertville, but a ton of great art galleries over there and some really neat shops. so many great restaurants and bars, and it is a very beautiful area.

We also now have a wine shop in New Hope that does tastings from Local wineries.

I don't think 2 hours would be enough time at all. I hate rushing myself!

The Wedgewood is very nice and cute, and it is right in town so you can walk everywhere.

We were down there a couple of weeks ago. Between New Hope and Lambertville we spent about 4 hours.

Agree that it is really more the area than just NH itself. But, you could walk around the town to get a feel and come back another time. You aren't that far away.
