Deciding where to stay...........

Coming down to a Steelers game, not sure whether to stay on the north side near Heinz field or downtown. First time to Pittsburgh. Any help?

There are some B&Bs on the North Side, but no hotel right near the stadium. Downtown is very close, you can walk to the stadium in 15 minutes.

Another idea would be to stay at the Sheraton at Station Square on the South Side, then you can take a boat to the stadium from there, which is fun. gatewayclipper.com/PITTSBURGHSTEELERSHEINZFI…

There are restaurants and bars at Station Square plus you can take the nearby incline to the top of Mt. Washington and admire the great view. Also, you'll be at one end of Carson Street, which has a lot of bars and restaurants.

The action downtown is pretty sedate, South Side caters to a younger crowd.

Have fun, enjoy your visit.

Yes, there is a hotel near Heinz Field, the Spring Hill Suites. It's very new and people on this board have given it good reviews.

Bars/restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

If you stay at any of the downtown hotels, you will have no problem walking to Heinz Field. The Renaissance is very highly rated and people get good deals on Priceline.

There is also a brand new Courtyard by Marriott on Penn Avenue downtown. All a flat 15-20 minute walk to Heinz Field.

The Omni William Penn is a bit further out, though walkable. Nice older hotel. The Hilton is OK, but wouldn't be my first choice.

If you're here the night before, do hit Mount Washington for the view and Carson Street on the South Side for the bars/restaurants. Any hotel personnel will be able to direct you.

Welcome-Go Steelers!

All great suggestions above. For convenience, try the Renaissance Hotel--right across the river (walkable) from Heinz Field. There's a great B&B in the Northside called the Priory, too, if that's more what you're looking for. Have a great trip to Pittsburgh.

I would suggest either the Renaissance or the newly built SpringHill Suites (the one on Federal St.). The SpringHill Suites is located right across from the stadiums, so that would be good for you. I believe this hotel just opened this spring, so everything should still be in pretty new condition. The Renaissance is housed in a very old building that reopened in 2001 and gets very good reviews. It is a bit more expensive than the SpringHill Suites, but it is fancier and and the service is top-notch. Again, either hotel would be a good choice, as each are in an ideal location for where you want to be.
