Alone in Pittsburgh

INTRO - Married gal will be in Pittsburgh traveling on business in June for 3 nights. I will be staying downtown and trying to avoid stuffy corporate dinners chatting about things I could care less about.

QUESTION - What's a girl to do? Is it safe for me to walk around at night alone? I'm really inclined to pop in a cab and check out some cool eats and don't mind sitting by myself at a table or bar. Dinner/cool eats suggestions (NOTHING SPICY PLEASE)?

Thanks!

Safety should not be a major issue for you in downtown Pittsburgh.

Downtown Pittsburgh is compact; you may find that your destinations are within walking distance of your hotel. Here are three off-the-top-of-my-head restaurant recommendations: Olive or Twist, Nine on Nine, and Eleven:

You might want to check the Pittsburgh Public Theater and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust websites to see what's happening during your visit. Late Night Cabaret offers a varied lineup.

Depending upon when exactly you will be in town, you might want to check out a show at the Civic Light Opera, which is one of the most popular forms of summer entertainment here:

There is also the CLO cabaret, which is an intimate theater that will be showing the Marvelous Wonderettes during June:

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I think that I may have been to Olive or Twist before and remember it being a cute little martini bar. I'll have to check out Nine on Nine.

The Marvelous Wonderettes sounds.....well.....marvelous.

I have some planning to do now!

Again, thank you for your guidance.

More suggestions for bars/restaurants

http://www.sixpennkitchen.com/---they have good food and a great rooftop bar where you can hang out if the weather is nice

http://www.seviche.com/--wonderful tapas, great happy hour

The Three Rivers Arts Festival runs from June 3-12--you might want to check that out if you'll be here then.

Sports fan? Pirates are in town from June 3-13 and again from the 20-26. Even if you aren't a fan, PNC Park is a fun place to check out and you can get seats for as cheap as $11.

Into art? Go to the Warhol Museum on the North shore. You can also cab (or shuttle if your hotel offers that service) into Oakland (University of Pittsburgh area) and go to the Carnegie Museums.

Your going to Nine on Nine and want to avoid stuffy? Yikes!

Go to Mike and Tonys on Liberty and have a gyro (best in the city). Tell Manny hello (french fry and chicken grill man),

There is also Corys on 10th St. (near the convention center) for Cheesesteaks or chicken. A tiny place but the most friendly folks in the whole city,

You could walk the bridge over to Station Sq, and take a ride on the incline up to Mt. Washington and enjoy the view.

If you stay around the cultural district or stay on the larger streets like Grant, you will be just fine at night.
