Transportation from Megabus Stop at 10th and Penn to Oakland

I am looking into sending my 18 yo daughter from Philly to Pittsburgh via megabus to participate in a program at University at Pittsburgh.

How would she get from the bus stop at 10th and Penn to the Litchfield Towers on 3990 Forbes Ave and back via public transit? how much does public transit cost?

Thanks!

I entered your start and ending points into google maps and came up with 3 different buses that will take her right to her destination. However, all require a short walk from the Megabus stop (no more than a half a mile). Looks like the 28X, 61B, & 61D buses will all take her to destination. Schedules for all 3 routes can be found at:

www.portauthority.org/PAAC/apps/pdfs/61D.pdf

www.portauthority.org/PAAC/apps/pdfs/61B.pdf

It looks like fares are between $2.25 and $3.25 depending on the zones. Hopefully someone else can shed more light on your questions, but in the meantime you can review the schedules and research more at http://www.portauthority.org/ Hopefully this helps some.

The bus fare between downtown Pittsburgh and the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh (the location of the University of Pittsburgh campus) is $2.25.

A number of bus routes (28X, 61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 71A, 71B, 71C, 71D) link downtown Pittsburgh to Oakland. The 28X serves the Pittsburgh International Airport as well, and is adapted for passengers with luggage.

PAT provides a map of bus service in the Oakland neighborhood (although the fare information is out of date). The Litchfield Towers are in the same block as the William Pitt Student Union (which is shown on the map).

You can't take the 28X Airport Flyer bus from Downtown to Oakland.

On trips from the Airport through Downtown and on to Oakland, it both picks up and discharges passengers before it reaches Downtown, but it's discharge only from Downtown to Oakland. Going toward the airport, it's pickup only from Oakland to Downtown and then picks up and discharges after it passes through Downtown.

The Megabus stop is on 10th St. midway between Penn Ave. and Fort Duquesne Blvd.--not at the corner of 10th and Penn-- in the tunnel under the Convention Center.

Go to either the corner of Sixth Ave. and Smithfield St. or Sixth Ave. and Wood St.--about a 5-6 minute walk---and take any 61 or 71 bus-- 61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 71A. 71B, 71C, or 71D. (Don't confuse Sixth Ave. and Sixth St.--or Seventh Ave. and Seventh St.--they're all Downtown, but they don't meet.)

The 61s will drop you off in Oakland on Forbes Ave. at Bouquet St. Walk a short distance ahead on Forbes and go up the the steps to the pedestrian bridge crossing Forbes to the Litchfield Towers entrance.

The 71s will drop you off at Fifth Ave. and Thackeray Ave. right by the Pitt Bookstore and right in front of steps leading up to the Towers.

It won't be hard to find the three Towers--A, B, and C. They are round high-rise buildings, around 15-20 stories, with wedge-shaped rooms--somewhat claustrophobic in my opinion. They might remind you of scouring powder cans--irreverent Pitt people call them Ajax, Bab-O, and Comet.

If your daughter does enroll at Pitt, she will find Pittsburgh is a great city. There's more to see and do here than in any other medium-size city in the country.

My daughter is traveling on MEGA Buss from Pittsburgh 10th street & Penn Ave to Philadelphia but she needs a place to park her car in Pittsburgh. Is there a place that's reasonably close and inexpensive to where the bus will be leaving?

Parking for Megabus was discussed in some detail already:
