One Night in Pittsburgh

We are from Cleveland and are planning an overnight trip to Pittsburgh next Saturday with my brother and sister-in-law. I am looking for suggestions regarding neighborhoods/areas to stay in for the night. We will be leaving our three-year-old with the grandparents so we are looking for cool/trendy neighborhoods with nice restaurants or breweries nearby that will be mostly kid free. Not into the party scene but would like to stay in a nice area with a variety of dining choices. I am not familiar with Pittsburgh's neighborhoods but I guess I am thinking of something similar to Cleveland's Tremont/Ohio City area. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Neighborhood choices include:

= + = + =

1) The eastern (cool/trendy) end of South Side (as distinguished from the western, or hot/hopping end), which is where Southside Works is located.

2) Shadyside/East Liberty, including Walnut Street, Ellsworth Avenue, South Highland Avenue and the newly resurgent Penn Circle South.

I'm a fan of Lawrenceville, a neighborhood with lots of interesting restaurants and galleries. Less hectic than the South Side, with a more adult (as opposed to college) feel to it. Check it out: http://lvpgh.com/

I'd stay away from south side, try Shady Side.
