weekend mother-daughter getaway

For a mother's day gift, I'm planning a weekend getaway with my Mom, in June. Would like to stay in a B & B, or boutique hotel or Inn. Something quaint and casually elegant, not over the top upscale (not her style), visit a spa for massage, and shop at second hand consignment stores, antiques stores, etc.

Would love for the Inn or B and B to be within walking distance of shopping, if possible.

Any recommendation? 1) Where to stay. 2) Spa 3) Best street or neighborhood for shopping. Thanks!

Where to stay: Sunnyledge, in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood.

There are a number of spas in the Shadyside area.

Sunnyledge is a short distance from Walnut Street, one of Shadyside's main shopping areas:

Extend your walk a bit and you'll be in the Ellsworth Avenue shopping district.

You might also consider the Morning Glory Inn, a lovely little B&B on Sarah St in the Southside of Pittsburgh. I know of two nice spas in the neighborhood: Judit European Day Spa on E Carson St & DeStefino on Sidney St.

The Southside is known for the 20+ blocks of shopping (many antiques), galleries, clubs, bars and restaurants in the area. Also, from here, Southside Works is walkable with a multiscreen theatre, and more shops & restaurants. There is also the beautiful newly completed Southside Riverfront Trail which runs along side the river, all the way down to Station Square in town.

Really, I think either one of these venues would be fine. Sounds like a wonderful idea for a Mother's Day gift. Your Mom is a lucky lady!

Sunnyledge gets some bad reviews here on TripAdvisor, but I have never stayed there myself.

Check out the Inn on Negley, good Shadyside location, they serve very nice fancy tea in the afternoons. Again, I have not stayed there but people I know who have really enjoyed it. I have been there for tea a few times and thought it was a welcoming, pleasant environment that sounds as though it might fit your mother's taste.

I agree with evangeline57--you are a great daughter!
