Pittsburg Steelers Game in Aug 2013

Coming from Cincinnati to watch our FAVORiTE NFL team play for the 1st time at Pittsburg. Any recommendations for hotels that are close to the stadium/have transportation to the game and not too awful expensive? Restaurant ideas also....nothing too pricey.

There are 3 or 4 within a very short walking distance to the stadium. A Saturday night is going to run $160-$200 depending on the weekend. There is a Cambria Suites, Hyatt, and Springhill Suites.

My experience has been that Northshore Hotels run much higher than those rates quoted above on Steelers Home Game weekends. I suggest you try to get a room at the Hampton Inn and Suites on Smallman St at the entrance to the Strip District. Rates here are somewhat lower, but it is still excellently located, in a safe, busy area, and within walking distance (@20 mins) to Heinz Field. If that is too far for you, you could also take the "T" (subway) for FREE from Wood St to the Allegheny Station on the North Side (and FREE return). The Hampton also offers FREE onsite Parking, and FREE Breakfast, plus many rooms have a river view, so you really do get tremendous value here. It is well run, but fills up early, so don't delay if you are interested in staying there.

Many good restaurant clusters close by, too. The Strip itself, along Smallman and Penn Aves, has very good breakfast places like "KellyO's" and "DeLuca's," and also one of the best restaurants in the City, the Carribean-themed "Kaya." Check out the "NeighborsintheStrip" website for details. Best to visit this area on Saturday morning-afternoon for festival atmosphere.

Market Square Downtown is another hotspot for cafe-style outdoor dining, and general people-watching. The "Diamond Market Grill" and "Wingharts" are good, casual places here. Also 6th St, between Penn and Ft Duquesne Blvd, in the Cultural (Theatre) District is packed with all sorts of Bars and Restaurants. You might also like the Northshore Dr area where "Grille 36," Jerome Bettis' Restaurant, and a many others are located. A really good place with riverside dining is "The Wheelhouse," on the ground floor at Rivers Casino, just next door to Heinz Field.

Enjoy you visit to Pittsburgh!

I would agree with the post above that the strip district or downtown would be your best bet for a hotel. The hotels on the North Shore will cost at least $400 for a Saturday before a Steeler home game. Make your reservations now, hotels fill up fast. Since your in town, I would suggest eating at Primanti Brothers in the Strip. It's a Pittsburgh tradition for out-of-towners. Check TA for reviews.

On game day the parking lots open at 8:00 a.m. for a 1:00 game for tailgating. I would suggest going to the stadium in the morning (if its a 1:00 game). This is part of the game day experience. There are also many bars on Federal st across from PNC park that will also be open.

Enjoy the game.

We have reservations for the night of August 10th (Steelers pre-season opener) at the Hampton at the start of the strip district across from the Heinz Museum...$193/night.....parking is free; we plan on walking to the game.

13MKeller: Almost missed your message because it was tagged on to the end of a thread I had already read. Hope you didn't think everybody in the 'Burgh was intentionally ignoring you.

Anyway, the Gateway Clipper Fleet ferry shuttle to Steelers games departs from the Station Square dock:

Here's how you get there:
