Water Steps?

Planning a few things for trip to the city with kiddos.

1. Where could I park at a reasonable rate near the steps?

2. We can walk across the Clemente bridge to Point State Park, right?

3. And is it easy to walk to Market Sq for the Farmers Market from the Point?

Thanks in advance!

Would this be on a weekend or weekday? ... that will have an impact on your parking rate. Weekends, unless there is an event of some sort, will find most garages at a flat $5.00 fee. Weekdays are another matter entirely.

And yes, you can walk across the Clemente Bridge then turn right and go to Point State Park. Market Square is easily walkable from there.

Another thought would be to park in town, perhaps near the Byham Theatre or Heinz Hall, walk across the Clemente Bridge to the steps, then walk down to the Fort Duquesne Bridge which will cross directly into Point State Park, so you won't have to backtrack.

The Market Square farmers market is only on Thursdays, from 10 am to 2 pm.

1. If it's Sunday and there aren't any events, plenty of free metered parking on the North Side. If not a Sunday and still no events, garages and lots are a basic $5 flat rate, or metered parking is available (only pay until 6pm as it's free after that in most areas of the city. Check the meter to be certain.)

If there is an event, I like the suggestion of parking across the river near the Byham. That gives you an easy and enjoyable walk across the Clemente Bridge and over to the steps right passed PNC.

2. If you parked on the North Shore, walking over the Clemente Bridge wouldn't be the ideal way to get to PNC Park. There's a bridge with a designed pedestrian/bicycle path right next to the Root Sports building that takes you right into the park, or you could take the T under the river to get to the Gateway Station. Walking across the Clemente Bridge and to Point State Park isn't a hard walk, but you still have a little ways to go. That's a lot of backtracking, but if that's what you want to see, it's a nice walk.

3. Market Square to Point State Park is a very easy walk.

Thanks everyone. It will be during the week--this Friday afternoon. Do you know the rate of parking if I park in a garage near the Byham?

Sixth and Penn Garage:

Day Rates:

0-1/2 Hour - $4.00

1/2-2 Hours - $10.00

2-4 Hours - $12.00

4-24 Hours - $16.00

Night Rate:

After 4:00pm - $8.00

alcoparking.com is actually pretty well set up and helpful.
