Things to do -- with children

We will be visiting the State College area on Friday and Saturday, with our younger children -- ages 11 & 3. We have Friday & Saturday evening full but are looking for something during the day.

Any suggestions?

Your children may enjoy the PSU sports museum. It's free, underneath the stadium with lots of different sports exhibits and a film or two. It's also right down the street from the creamery, where they will love the ice cream-regardless of the weather. You might check Schlowe library to see what events are scheduled. While I don't have young children, I am there often and they seem to sponsor a lot of events. At a minimum, it's a great place to spend some time after being out in the cold.

Also if you pick up the Centre Daily Times there are schedules of events.. or check it online. Enjoy your trip, it's a great town.

1. We love Shaver's Creek Environmental Center, up over the mountain off 26. It's run by Penn State and has the typical nature center exhibits, plus rehabilitated hawks and owls.

2. Growing Tree Toys on Allen St. We love it and can easily spend an hour.

3. If you're really hard up, the public library has a great children's section with blocks, puzzles, and more. (We ducked in to use the restroom, but the children begged to stay and read!)

4. If you're walking around campus, there are nice fish tanks on the bottom level of the HUB. Plus it's warm, with restrooms!
