Any Recent Experience at M Sun Casino (e.g.BUffet and Slots)

Will be traveling along RTE 80 next week. Considering a side trip to Mohegan Sun. Older Reviews had suggested Mt AIry better. Have been to Mt Airy a number of times ( much closer to home). We will be coming back from the West and plan to stop at one of the Casinos and will be within half an hour ( I think ) from RTE 80 Rte 81 juncture.

I assume you have a player's card at both casinos. Do you ever go to Atlantic City? Resorts is now associated with Mohegan Sun. So if you earn points at one of the M Sun locations you can use them at Resorts and vice versa. If you never go to AC, well . . . never mind!

Has anyone been to MS pocono that could make a comment ?

I tried the AC forum and got more responses than the PA forums but got closed out . Apperars that more PA TT members post on the AC board but TA won't allow me to post on AC board.

I've been to Mohegan Sun a couple times -- once in their old facility, once in the new. I hated Mohegan Sun both times. Dark and smoky. Didn't even try to eat there. Would never bother to stop by again, even if it weren't out of my way.

Been to Mount Airy three times for a two-night stay. I love Mount Airy -- if it were closer I'd stop going to AC and always go there. I think the MA hotel is beautiful and I like the slots floor at MA a lot better than MS. The food choices on weekdays, though, are pretty awful -- basically a lousy buffet or a diner. Or way overpriced "high end" dining. And not great alternatives off property.

Smoke is an issue at both places. If you've never been to Mohegan Sun, and it's just for a couple hours, WTH, stop by and make your own judgments.

Here are additional inputs posted to another board that I posted the question in error.

I have been to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs a few times. It is much smaller than the Mohegan Sun in CT and is maybe the same size as Mt Airy casino. I really don't like it. The smoking and non-smoking sections are not really seperated or enforced so the entire casino is very smokey. They do not have a hotel but are currently building one attached and because of the construction the paking lot is a long walk to casino entrance

If it's only a 30 min detour, why not? There are smoking & nonsmoking sections (Penny Grove all non-smoking); as well as table games & a good selection of machines. They have a Poker Room, & live horse racing on Tues, Thurs, Sat & Sun evenings. Nice choice of restaurants too. Ongoing construction of the new hotel does screw up some parking areas... but they run a shuttle to/from the casino.

Mohegan has a much better selection of restaurants as compared to Mt. Airy. The casino is fine, but I find it somewhat limited in terms of the slot machine selection as compared to AC or LV. For example, they don't have Top Dollar, except for a $5 machine in the high limit room and I'm not even sure they still have that one. As far as PA casinos go I think it's comparable.

If you don't mind the hour of additional driving time (more if traffic on 81 is an issue) I think it's worth the visit, at least to see if you ever want to go again.

I am originally from the NE PA area. I've been to Mohegan a handful of times, as it is the closest local casino.

I agree with what others have posted. The smoking areas aren't secluded, so that can be an issue for some. They don't have the latest slots, but always are getting new ones in, at least a few of them at a time.

The hotel is under construction right now, but I believe you can still stay at The Woodlands nearby, which runs shuttles to/from.

They do offer some hand-shuffled blackjack games. Also, you can use your rewards that you earn at Mohegan in CT, as well as Resorts in AC.

Also, to avoid all parking issues, park valet if you can. It is free of charge! Enjoy!

Hello, Pocono Downs in my local Casino, but I never look into the local Fora. Looks like nobody does, that is why there is no traffic.

If you decide to go, check out these offers in advance:

referlocal.com/offers/wilkes-barre/get-25-fr…

referlocal.com/offers/wilkes-barre/two-timbe…

It works like this: you can buy each 2 times per registered player. With the Buffet offer you get 2 entries into the Buffet and $20 slot play. With the Rustic Kitchen offer you'll get a coupon of $25 value for the restaurant plus $25 slot play.

We have bought the Buffet offers numerous times last year (each time bought 2 offers for both of us, thus paid $100 each time and got 8 Buffet entries and $80 slot play) and almost always won the paid money back. Only the last time I won only $76 for my paid $100. But that was still a great deal, considering we got 8 buffets for the $24 I didn't win back.

The Rustic Kitchen is fine dining, reservation might be needed on holidays. Buffet is pretty good, comparable to Golden Nugget in AC (but with more selections)

The Casino is indeed very smokey, that is very annoying. And the slots are not exactly the latest, but if you like to lay with the familiar types, you will find a favourite here or there.

Live in NE PA, same distance from Mt Airy to Mohegan. Been to both. Can't stand Mohegan, to me it's dark and dingy, no comp drinks unless you have a premium card, usually play $1 slots, Mohegan selection is almost non-existent. Stay with what you know, Mt Airy nice play for a side trip.

Based on Comments on this forum, we stopped at Mohegan Sun Pocono on our way back from Western PA. . We spent about five hours there ( got their players card which gave us $ 10.00 Free Slot Play- [ Our Mohegan Sun Player Card Connecticut "did not' disqualify us for a MH Sun Pocono and Free Slot Play])

If we lived equidistant from MT Airy and MH Sun, we would go to MH Sun if we were having a buffet. Else it might be a coin toss to decide . There are more slots, I think, at MH Sun and most are more recent versions (e.g. No Old Style Gold Fish or Texas Tina etc.). While they have smoking/non- smoking areas in Main Casino and all levels of machines ( Penny and Up) , there also have a separate Non Smoking Room and a separate Penny Slot Room , We did not notice the smoke to be any more dense than MT Airy or AC.

We found it to be a nice Casino , and very active for a Tuesday afternoon, with a good number of slots for its' size ( a few hundred more than MT Airy according to the Casino Web Sites) a Lunch Buffet ( $13.99) that was equal to, if not better than Mt AIry and a number of Boardwalk Lunch Buffets. It was larger and better, from my observation , than the Buffet at Golden Nugget. Desserts, while not extensive, were good and they had 8 flavors of hard ice cream in the dessert area.

We stil prefer to come AC if we were doing an over night ( about 1 1/2 hour longer to drive from home) but for quick day time trip we would still go to Mt Airy since it's about 30 -45 min Closer.

Thanks to the folks who gave us input on this board.
