Day Trip to Angel Oak Tree

Where would you stop to eat along the way? We will be coming from Folly Beach. We will be eating at Shem Creek the day before, so anywhere else would be appreciated!

Either of these restaurants would be good for lunch or dinner:

MUSTARD SEED 1978 Maybank Hwy. Johns Island (843) 762-0072 ("The Mustard Seed" looks quite unimposing, but it is a local favorite. The daily specials are always excellent.)

FAT HEN 3140 Maybank Hwy, John's Island (Johns Island), SC 29455 (843) 559-9090 - www.thefathen.com

If you come from Folly Beach, You will come on to Johns Island via Maybank Highway. There are two restaurants not mentioned by KiawahVilla that I'd recommend both barbecue and both on Maybank: Hickory Hawg, which is pretty good (it's just past the first traffic light on JI, on your left) and J.B.'s Smokeshack, which is one of my favorites in the entire lowcountry (it's about 3-4 miles down on the right).

All in all, I'd go with The Fat Hen. I have heard nothing but rave reviews of it and can't wait to try it.

The restaurants that Floski and I have mentioned are on your route (Maybank Highway) to the Angel Oak. However, the places are small, and you might miss them in traffic.

The Mustart Seed will be on your right shortly after you turn onto Maybank from Folly Road. Hickory Hawg is in a shopping center at the intersection of Maybank Highway and River Road. The Fat Hen and J.B.'s Smokeshack are on your right beyond River Road, but before you get to the turn-off onto Bohicket Road.

I suggest that you google the four addresses so that you will have a mental picture of where they are.
