Charleston Riverview Hotel - recommendations?

We (group of teachers on limited budget) are considering staying at the Charleston Riverview Hotel in October, near the Ashley River and about a mile from the historic district? Does anyone have any positive comments about this hotel? Any negative reviews? Thanks so much. (we have a rate of $83/night from one of the internet discount hotel sites - that fits our budget!)

Nice hotel.

Right on the river with a very nice view.

The shuttle bus stops right in front of the hotel

and will take you right to the downtown historic

district.

The hotel is near The Citadel and Joe Riley Stadium,

our minor league baseball team's field.

The City of Charleston headquarters is one building

away so, even though very close to some inner-city

developments, it is a very safe area.

Hope you all have fun and I didn't make any grammatical

mistakes! ;-)

Thanks for the positive comments! I didn't notice any grammatical errors! I always appreciate a sense of humor - we sure need one working at a school.

We're looking forward to our Charleston trip - I've been there before but 4 of us have not.

Thanks again.

Meg

I agree with Floski. Although new to this forum, I'm a lifetime Charleston native. There are certainly nicer hotels in the downtown area, but you'll pay a lot more for them. The Holiday Inn is close enough to the historic district to be convenient, and you have an awesome view of the city from the rooftop restaurant and bar, especially at night.

I hope you enjoy your visit!

I originaly booked a room at the Charleston Riverview Hotel, but then after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor on the hotel, I immediatley canceled the reservation, and I am now staying at the Holiday Inn Historic District. I called the Riverview hotel before I canceled about the distance to the historic district, and they said it was not a good walk, and they recommened taking cabs. They did not say anything about a shuttle. The Holiday Inn is a bit more expensive, but like I said, after the reviews on the Riveriew Hotel, I will gladly spend a little more.
