Yep, Shankle is right, read through some of the topics on the left and read back through recent posts to get some ideas of what Charleston has to offer. Give us a better idea of $$$ you want to spend and specific likes and wants/needs and we'll be able to give better answers.

HD is the place to stay, start by checking prices at Best Western King Charles, Holiday Inn HD and Mills House (I'm assuming you're talking one room 2 queen bds). They all get good reviews and are in very good walking locations. A girlfriend and I recently stayed at HI and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

What is the difference between Downtown and the Historic District? Does one have more things to do and places to eat??

The Historic District is within the downtown area. There are restaurants everywhere.

Tell us what you and your friends like to eat and we can give suggestions!!!

One special place to take the girls is to the top of the Market Pavillion Hotel. They have a bar up there w/a great view of the bridge. We like to go late afternoon, prior to dinner elsewhere. You might try one of their special beverages using the local Firefly Vodka.

Historic district is a part of downtown. If a hotel is "downtown" that does NOT mean that it will be walking distance to all the restaurants, sights and things that you want to do.

There is so much to do in the Historical District you will need to plan a trip back next year.

Your first stop should be the Visitors Center. They have a lot of special events information, discounts, coupons etc., that are only found there.

Take a carriage ride tour and then visit one or two of the historical homes. My favorites are the Edmonston Alston House and the Nathaniel Russell House. Walk by Rainbow Row and along the Battery and through Waterfront Park. Take time to stroll through the residential area south of Broad. Shop along King Street and in The Market. Pop into some of the art galleries and boutiques.

Since you will have a car, go out to Middleton Place and out to a beach. I would go to MP early. They open at 9 AM and plan your house tour later in the morning when it starts to warm up. I would go to the beach in the late afternoon. It is less crowded and not so likely to sunburn.

When packing, dress cool, loose and light for a June trip. You might want a light jacket or wrap in the evenings on some of the rooftop bars or in air conditioned restaurants. Bring sunscreen and a sun hat. Drink lots of water and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Depending on when you are coming in June, you might need to reserve now because of Spoleto.
