Can we pull this off in one day????

Our flight lands at 5:30 in Myrtle Beach, and with the hour drive down, we don't have much time the first night to really do much. We are planning on doing a carriage ride first, then the market area, lunch, then fort Sumpter. Can this be done in one day? We're arriving next Tuesday night, so Wednesday will be our day to do Charleston. On Thursday, we plan on heading up to Myrtle Beach and stopping at Brookgreen Gardens which will take the place of doing one of your plantations.

Thanks for all you do!!!!

It can. Instead of shopping in the Market, you might want to stroll around the residential section south of Broad or walk along Waterfront Park and then past Rainbow Row, depending on which carrigae tour your carriage is assigned. You, the driver nor the carriage company have any control over that because it is done by the city officer on a lottery basis when the carriage is heading out.

It is about a 2 hour drive from M'Beach to Charleston. You will also need to allow for time to pick up your luggage and car etc. When you get to Charleston, you will probably need to eat right away because restaurants do not stay open very late here. You may want to do this before checking into your hotel and then have a nice relaxing drink on one of the rooftop bars.

On your way back to M'Beach, you might want to take a turn and go to Hampton Plantation which is a state park and does not take much time before going on to Brookgreen Gardens.

Most restaurants here stop serving at 10pm. As noted above, the drive from MB will be 2 hrs and can be more. The speed limit most of the way is 60 mph (less as you pass thru towns) and they do stop people regularly, so I wouldn't push it too much.

Also, Fort Sumter has no "p". ;-)

We really enjoyed our visit to Ft. Sum(no p)ter (LOL), but it did take a while. We had plenty of time so visited the Aquarium first and then walked over to the Ft. Sumter departure area. The boat ride to the island was almost as enjoyable as visiting the Fort. It seems to me it took 20-30 minutes each way and the time on the island was about an hour if I remember correctly.

Be sure to leave time for some wonderful food! We had several excellent meals in interesting restaurants.

You probably won't have time for museums and that's a shame, because the Charleston Museum is full of interesting history and the Gibbes Art Museum has a very good collection and great museum shop.

Wish you had more time. This is such a beautiful city with somuch to see and do. In any case, enjoy your time there. We sure did.
