Need help in finding best beach and delicious food options.

2 adult couples with 6 month old need help finding the best beach with ocean front rental, (house or condo). Laid back atmosphere, with delicious restaurant and fresh seafood choices close by. We love beach front dining, with a combo of upscale nice seafood and fine wine, as well as the hut on the beach where we can go barefoot for a fish sandwich and beer. Any ideas?

I don't know of any beach "huts" - the beachfront restaurants in the Charleston area are all on the Isle of Palms and not all are very casual. Coconut Joe's is casual, as are a couple of other places, but Huck's is not very casual. Look into Isle of Palms - it sounds like what you're looking for. Folly Beach is a "maybe" - it is very laid back - still no beach huts, though. I don't think Folly would appeal to your group as much as it's more of a college crowd.

No "huts" on the beach. South Carolina is very protective of the beaches and dunes. The only concessions are chair and umbrella rentals in some locations. You will enjoy the unspoiled beaches ... and dining behind the dunes.

With a baby, I would choose Isle of Palms over Folly Beach. Folly is funky and fun ... very popular with local daytrippers and with the college crowd. Isle of Palms is quieter and, IMO, more family-oriented.

Isle of Palms has a "hut" type place to get hot dogs and such (one of those booth type places like at the Fair, where you order at the window), on the street. There is also Banana Cabana, which is good for cheeseburgers, etc, (not so much for "good" dining). All restaurants require shoes, per SC law. Flip flops count as shoes (plus, in the summer, you will need shoes for the hot sand and asphalt)

We have decided on Isle of Palms. Any suggestions where to stay. Need 3 bedroom ocean front with a pool. We prefer not to be right in the thick of things. Would enjoy the less crowded beach areas and pool. Any ideas?

Are you coming THIS summer? You may have a very difficult time finding anything - we have had a large number of people who cancelled Gulf vacations flooding to the SC area, so vacancies are slim.

There are only 2 options on the Isle of Palms that fit your description....

The Sea Cabins condos are right on the beach, they are in the "front beach" area, walking distance to the local restaurants.

The other options is Wild Dunes, a gate community on IOP.

www.wilddunes.com Fewer restaurant options there, but there are some.

Mt. Pleasant is 10 min away by car and will give you lots more options for dining, shopping, movies, etc.

Check into Wild Dunes Resort.

There are many options out there. However, if you plan on traveling this summer, you may want to book soon. The SC coast is more crowded than usual with people who usually vacation on the Gulf.

OOPS!! That should read "the other option is Wild Dunes, a gated community". That will teach me not to proof read.

If you've decided on the Isle of Palms, then as long as you're not staying between 10th and 21st street, you'll be fine if you don't want to be "in the thick of things" (though even there, it's not that crowded). Check one of the many rental agencies or www.vrbo.com to start getting ideas. However, if you're planning to come at a prime time, book soon since you may have heard that a lot of people are having to choose beaches away from the Gulf Coast due to their oil problems.

Food - many options - check out the menus for Boathouse, Locklear's, Sewee, Boulevard Diner, Mustard Seed, Long Point Grill, 17 North, Jacob's Kitchen, and the brand new - just opened Wednesday - Guy Harvey's (haven't been to that one yet but it's all sustainable seafood; new at Mt. Pleasant's Towne Centre across from Belk's parking lot.)

Looking at VRBO website. What about the address 1140 Ocean Blvd. I am finding availability in several units. Anyone familiar with that area and property please give me feedback and input. You all are soooo helpful. I appreciate your knowledge.
