Ashley River Road-Middleton Plantation and then what?

We are four first-timer ladies coming to Charleston Oct 21. We plan on renting a car ... we are booked to go to Middleton on Saturday and will probably leave our Mt P hotel around 9am to go to Middleton. Is there anything else we should do that day while "on the road"? Is there a great restaurant we shouldn't miss for lunch or dessert along the way? Any other low country sites we should visit that day? How long should we figure to be at Middleton given we got all the tour tickets? The only thing we have planned later is a nice dinner downtown around 8pm...but we are pretty flexible.

The restaurant (not the snack bar in the garden shop) on the grounds of Middleton Place is a very pleasant place to have lunch. If you are still up for plantation tours after your visit to Middleton, go a little further down the road to take the house tour at Drayton Hall, which is the only entirely original - unfurnished, preserved but not restored - plantation home on the Ashley River. http://www.draytonhall.org/

After touring the plantations, you'll probably be ready to head back into Charleston to relax before dinner. If it's a nice day and you have the time, have a drink before dinner at the rooftop bar in the Market Pavilion Hotel.
