"Death-defying" activities

My wife and I visit Charleston every year or so for the usual stuff. This year, we're going with friends. The guys like to do "unusual" stuff -- recent activities have included doing ziplines, hot air balloons, glider planes and race car ride-alongs. Can we find anything in that category in or near Charleston?

Sure. Drive an hour to Walterboro and try skydiving.

Surfing on Folly Beach? Parasailing?

Remember that the lowcountry is, by definition, LOW. Unless you get up in the sky and/or on the sea, few activities will be death-defying.

If you're certified, there are some fun dives off the coast.

How about wing suit flying, skydiving and bungee jumping. A friend of a friend says Skydive Carolina in Chester, SC offers these wild things. Yes, a couple hour trip maybe but that's part of the adventure. They look amazing in pix and on youtube but...only for the brave.

And if you want to say you did it, Sandboard Magazine rated the Best Place to Sandboard on the East Coast...Jockey Ridge. Which, of course, is I think about 7 hours north in Nags Head, NC. But I hear people actually have died from sandboarding in other more extreme parts of the world...so could be cool and worth a side trip while some others...oh, sun and shop.

How about soaring in a glider plane? Bermuda High Soaring near Lancaster South Carolina has many options. It's an hour away from Columbia on the way to Charleston.

How about parasailing? Don't know the company, but I see them up in the air over the water on Isle of Palms all the time.
