Best Hotel location for a visit

We are considering a 1st time visit to Charleston. We need some advise on where to stay that will be within walking distance of most sights. We have found some good rates at the MIlls House on Meeting St.,but we have no knowledge of the area. Any advise or suggestions will be appreciated. 1bull

Thanks for the quick response! Any advice or suggestions for parking a car? Do they have parking at the Mill house?

There is a city lot next to the hotel. You enter the hotel by the pool.

Thanks for all replies. After looking over the other hotels, we have narrowed our choices to Mills House and Francis Marion Hotel. Hopefully we can receive some replies that will help with our choice. Which is the better location for restaurants, shopping.etc? Any other comparisons of these two will be greatly appreciated. 1bull

Either would be fine and both are nice but older hotels with that old school charm. Both have a city lot next to the property and are close to great restaurants but Mills House is more centrally located. I would go with whichever gives you the best rate.

If you are going to be in town on a Saturday, the Farmer's Market is right across the street from the FM, which is nice.

I love the location of The Mills House, and the hotel itself is really lovely ... a truly grand hotel, and not at all your "typical" Holiday Inn. The roof top pool is a nice added bonus in summer. :-)

Is Charlston Place in a good location? We will be staying there in July for 2 nights.

We are also going to be in Kiawah Island for a week. We are renting a house with our family.

Looking for some great places to take the kids for lunch and dinners. Children are 7 and 10 years old.

Also which is best place to rent bikes for the week with free delivery to the house.

Places to rent a boat?

Any other suggestions would love to hear.
