Visiting South Carolina from Scotland

Hi

We're coming to South Carolina from Scotland - the nearest airport with direct flights is Orlando so plan to drive up the coast staying at Jacksonville then Savannah and onto Charleston and then back - is this reasonable in 14 days? (The alternative is to fly to Atlanta from London?)

Thinking of staying at Elizabeth Pointe at Amelia Island, Also Vendue Inn at Charleston and Forsyth Park Inn at Savannah- but if anyone has any other recommendations?

You would save time flying into Savannah or Charleston. Total flight time including connections would be around 16 hours. You have a 2.5 hr drive from Orlando to Jacksonville and a similar one to Savannah. Charlston is another 2 hours north

Hello SG,

You have plenty of time for that trip.

If you fly into Orlando, consider spending a day or two in Saint Augustine, Florida. It's a very popular, charming, historic little city about two hours from Orlando on your route up the coast, and different than Savannah and Charleston.

Agree about St Augustine. Also plan to stop through Beaufort, SC on your way. Charming little town with a nice riverfront.

I would plan the trip such that you stay in a few places on the way to Charleston and then a few on the way back, rather than stopping in each on the way to Charleston and then having a long drive back with no new places to see. Maybe save St. Augustine and Beafort for the return trip.

You didn't mention when you were traveling - if it's soon, you might be interested in the Scottish games, an annual event in Mt. Pleasant (which is about 20 minutes from Charleston) boonehallplantation.com/events_scottish.php

Stopping at some places driving north, others driving south is a good suggestion. Jacksonville and Daytona are fairly grim. I love St. Augustine, also Destin, Florida if you can find something there.
