Best Mac & Cheese in Charleston?

This prob. seems like a silly question, but my boyfriend is a mac & cheese fanatic. We are visiting Charleston for the first time in Oct. Any suggestions as to where he can get amazing mac & cheese? We don't care if it is a dinky BBQ restaurant or a 5 star place.

Hall's has a lobster mac&cheese that I thought was very good. My favorite might be the truffle mac & cheese at Coleman Public House in Mt. Pleasant; they have surprisingly good food.

Martha Lou's Kitchen on upper Meeting Street. Soul food heaven.

Martha Lou's is traditional, old school mac & cheese (not that there is anything at all wrong with that!), not the trendy stuff that is popular now.

Graze in Mt. Pleasant has a good one. Also Long Point Grill in Mt. P has a really tasty one.

Oak Steak House has a killer lobster Mac n Cheese. (fancy, trendy)

JB's Smokeshack on John's Island also has a pretty good one (much less flair, but consistent and goes VERY well with the vinegar sauce that goes with the pulled pork)

Thanks for all the input! Has anyone been to Cru Cafe? I read something online that they have a pretty good mac & cheese.

I have. I liked it fine. But Oak's is over the top.

ooooh; I forgot about Cru! Love their Mac and Cheese.

Its just shells and maybe four different kinds of cheese but absolutely decadent. I could eat the side of it for lunch by itself and be full.

I don't work downtown anymore and so don't get to go to all the fun lunch places.

Also, any Piggly Wiggly deli serves yummy southern-syle baked macaroni and cheese. Nothing fancy just oh so good! Beware though, if he likes creamy mac, this variety might not suit him. Still, he should try it and if he likes it, they sell it by the pound. :-)

I had some at Ted's Butcher Block the other day. Shells with rich gooey cheese. Not your granny's macaroni pie, but perfectly delicious. Paired well with their barbecue.
