There's not a whole lot you'll be able to walk to, There are some good places to eat on James Island, but you'll need a car.

Also shopping isn't that great, big shopping areas are either downtown CHS or Mount Pleasant

Not much nearby and sadly, Riverland Drive and Camp Road are not bicycle friendly. Mondo's Delight on Folly Road and Mustard Seed/Boulevard Diner on Maybank Highway are very good restaurants if you can get to them.

Taxi? City bus? JI County Park has a busy corps of retiree volunteers, from their experience they probably know some tips for you.

I see the shuttle will also take you to Folly Beach, which would be a great option for one lunch and afternoon. You can visit the pier, have several restaurant choices and lots of beachy shops (tee shirt type shops, not Charleston stuff).

As above, nothing nearby within walking distance, Mustard Seed is a good choice for dinner, but sadly, the James Island Boulevard Diner has closed.
