Historic District Hotels

Planning a girlfriends' trip to Charleston for the Garden Walk next year. Looking for a charming historic hotel with 2 double beds per room, perhaps a patio for a glass of wine a night, within walking distance to downtown, easy walk to historic district neighborhoods, and not break the bank. Obviously, looking for it all in one package! Thanks!

Check the Doubletree hotel, which close to the City Market and an easy walk to restaurants, shops, and sites of the historic district. Not sure about the balcony. Otherwise, they provide the accommodations you want. …hilton.com/en/…index.html

If you can give us a better idea of your budget, we can provide better suggestions. What "breaks the bank" varies with the individual. :-)

Another place is Restoration on King. One of the units has a patio. It's very nice but it will never be cheap.

^Yes and no. Usually you're right, it won't be cheap. But, I've seen (and purchased) off sales from jetsetter.com around ~$149/night! Sale goes on around 4-6 times a year.

Just a reminder...when doing online searches there is a big difference between downtown and the historic district. You want to be in the HD.

I'm not saying there aren't any, but not sure of any hotels in the HD with balconies, just FYI. Check out the Andrew Pinckney Inn for something a little different from typical chain hotels and continental breakfast is included. LOVE Charleston for girls' trips! Have a wonderful time!

Thanks for all the information. Am going to do more research this weekened. By "patio," I meant a outdoor or garden area at the hotel where we might sit after we return at night with a glass of wine. . . not a balcony off a room.

Harborview Inn has a rooftop patio that would be the perfect spot for you and your friends, and the inn itself is lovely and very conveniently located.

The Restoration on King has several rooms with large patios and also has a rooftop patio. The Harbourview Inn does as well and the French Quarter Inn has a nice outdoor area just off of their lobby as well. All 3 of those hotels have a complimentary wine and cheese reception each evening. Most of the time those JetSetter promotions are geared towards off-season travel dates. Best bet for Restoration on King is to book early. If you call the property ask for the Friends & Family discount that is normally around 15% off. They have that discount available as their Conde Nast Award Special on Tripadvisor right now but I don't think it is available online that far out yet.
