Anyone familiar with Harborview Charters?

I got an email today about a Groupon deal for either a dolphin or seashell tour with Harborview Charters. TripAdvisor has only one review and it's by a one hit wonder. We are planning to do a trip to Morris Island while we are in MB in June.

So, does anyone know anything about this company?

Not familiar w/Harborview Charters.

You do know that there is no island at Morris Island, just the old lighthouse that is slowly eroding away. I think there is a charter boat trip that takes folks to what is more or less a sandbar (at the right time) that is near MI.

Yeah, there's no island to Morris Island, at lowtide you can get out there via boat or kayak, Pretty good party scene in the summer sometimes out there and a good place to....bend the rules a bit

Its just a small sandbar though and then the lighthouse.

Yes, Winterface, we've been out there in kayaks, saw the party.

Personally, I wouldn't really want to send visitors out there, there are plenty of better ways to spend time and money.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but ...

Since currents around and near the lighthouse are strong and tricky, the kayak trip might not be appropriate for anyone who is not an experience ocean kayaker (such as my good friend Kiawahbeth). The rewards are insufficient to justify the risk.

As a casual kayaker, used to rivers and creeks, I would not attempt kayaking to Morris Island; but, close-in views of the lighthouse from the far northeast end of Folly Beach are excellent.

Agreed Villa, that area is not a place for the casual kayaker!!!

Yes, if the goal is to just view the lighthouse, Folly is a great place, w/the appropriate camera you can get some great shots!

yeah, agreed about the kayaking, I only get out there when its really calm, even then you can find yourself in trouble quick. If you've got some experience though its not too bad.

There is plenty of beach at Morris Island. The island itself is still huge.

If the tide is right and is very low there is beach. The lighthouse is endangered because of the tides covering the foundation and above at high tide. In order to preserve it, for your own safety and for the best photo ops it is best seen from Folly Beach.
