Charleston in Late May

Hi, my husband and I are trying to plan a trip in Charleston in late May. Arrival would be 5/24 or 5/25 staying about 6 nights. This would be our first time to Charleston. Can anyone recommend lodging that has an outdoor pool but also within walking distance to the historic area and restaurants? We would like to spend some days by a pool reading but also have some days to explore plantations and Historic Charleston. Price range under 350.00 night. Any suggestions or tips for first our time there is appreciated!

Not a good time. Spoleto Festival kicks off that weekend.

Charleston is a wonderful place for many reasons. There are so many sources of information, please avail yourself of them.

Hi MikeStone,

The reason we are coming is for the Spoleto Festival. Meeting friends there that week. We have read a couple of posts on the forum and top questions but none of the post specifically list outdoor pools. We have started looking at each place individually but it is becoming time consuming.

We saw that Charleston Place has an indoor/outdoor pool and have talked to some hotels that state you can drive to a pool within the area.

Trying to see if anyone has any better ideas or thoughts that would be helpful.

That is a very crowded time, due to the Spoleto festival. Prices will be at their highest for lodging in the historic district. When looking for hotels, be aware that "downtown" and "historic district" are NOT the same thing. Downtown is not walking distance to anything. Due to space constraints, most hotels in the historic district do not have pools, a few do. Hotels in the HD may all already be booked up at that time, you will just have to check.

The Courtyard Charleston Historic DistrictCharleston Historic District has a pool, Charleston Place has a pool, the Renaissance has one, also the Embassy Suites. All of these are in the historic district.

If you have not already done so, go to the right side of this page and look for "Top Questions about Charleston", this will give you much information.

You will also need to make dinner reservations ASAP. Many places book up 3-4 weeks in advance. Especially the nicer restaurants that we frequently suggest. ie- FIG, Anson, Magnolia's, High Cotton, etc

The Best Western King Charles Inn has a small pool. I think that is the only one I have seen that is in the budget you mentioned. As I said, prices will be at their peak then.

Mills House also has a small pool, might be within budget.

Hello Lori,

Day's Inn on Meeting Street in the Historic District has a pool and free parking. The location is ideal for touring the Historic District and that is where almost all the Spoleto & Piccolo Spoleto events are held.

It is very late to be looking for a hotel during Spoleto.

Enjoy your visit!

Spirit

P.S. I just checked Day's Inn for someone...

Days Inn has a room for two people. The rate with an AAA or AARP discount is $215 each for Friday and Saturday. $152 for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights, and $170 for Wednesday. Add 13.5% tax to all those rates.

Thank You for the tips! We are looking at the places you mentioned and this helps narrow down our original list. We do have some dinner reservations already in place, thanks to our friends.

Looking forward to our first time attending the festival and enjoying Charleston.

Thanks Again!
