Parking for tall van in downtown

We are staying in Edisto Beach next week and plan a day trip to Charleston. I've seen a couple of the parking maps that show where garages etc. are. Thanks. However, we have a full sized van which does not fit into a garage with 7' ceilings. We prefer an outside lot or a high ceiling lot. Any recommendations?

The one at the Visitor's Center has higher ceilings.

The Visitors' Center has an open air lot.

Thanks. We'll definitely try the Visitors Center. Any other suggestions in case it's full?

The Visitors Center lot is intended for short-term parking. Costs get very high for more than an hour. There are surface lots at East Bay & Pinckney, and Cumberland Street between Church & Meeting (by St. Philips Church). Free all-day parking around the Battery has been reduced, but there are still a number of spots around White Point Garden. There are areas here and there with meters that will go more than two hours.

Great. Thanks again. We plan to park and walk so all of these look like fairly central locations. We live in the Washington DC area - where it's always a challenge to find parking for the big van.

If it is a RV, beware that some of the streets are very narrow and there have been RVs that have gotten stuck or which hit other vehicles which caused a great deal of problems for the driver.

In the evenings, some of the HD offices with private parking open them up as pay lots. If using a parking meter do not be late because the meter attendants are ticket-happy!
