Four days in Charleston.

We will be in Charleston in October for four days. Can anyone suggest what are the best things to do in four days. We will probably walk along the Battery and have dinner, do a horse and carriage tour of the City, check out markets etc, but I don't know whether the Middleton Place or Magnolia Plantation are worth seeing. Also would like to get to Myrtle Beach but there don't seem to be any tours to there. Is it worth going to and if so how would we get there. Also would like to see some gospel singers at a Church there and listen to some jazz.

If you have not already done so ~ look to the right of this page for Top Questions About Charleston. It will give you tons of ideas of what to see and do, there are even sample itineraries.

Middleton Place and Drayton Hall are most definitely worth seeing. Drayton has the only original home, dating back to 1738. Magnolia just has a farm house and is my least favorite.

Not sure why you want to go to Myrtle Beach... there is nothing historical there. It is a big tourist mecca with tons of t-shirt shops, putt-putt golf, etc Very touristy and tacky. Everything there used to close down about the beginning of Oct, but now it is more of a year round type place. Altho, some things will still close for the season. They do have many golf courses, if you are into that.

If you have additional days to go to Myrtle Beach, there are some things in the general area that are nice ~ ie Brookgreen Gardens. However, if the time would need to be subtracted from the 4 days in Charleston...... then forget it. There is MORE than enough to keep you occupied in Charleston the entire time.

You won't find much in Myrtle beach except golf, amusement parks, putt putt, and the beach. I Wouldn't bother going.

The Charleston City Paper is a good place for listings of live music, but a lot of things for October may not be posted yet. Charleston Grill has jazz every night.

Halls Chophouse has a Sunday Gospel Brunch. You might also check the schedule for Sound of Charleston, which follows Charleston's history through music inclduing Gospel.

October is not a peak bloom month, but Middleton Place is still lovely and interesting.

For some other ideas of things to do, check the Charleston Visitors Center website. http://www.charlestoncvb.com/visitors/tripplanner/what_to_see_do~3/
