Plantation Homes in Charleston

We are visiting Charleston for 3 days April 10-12. We would like to visit one of the plantation homes. There seem to be several choices. Any recommendations appreciated.

We were at Beidler two years ago and really enjoyed it - a long boardwalk through the swamp. I felt very safe, if that makes sense. We were there for probably 1.5 hours, but we took our time and stopped a lot to take photos.

I didn't have that "safe" feeling at I'On - I felt like we were getting the real deal, especially after we saw a snake. I don't remember a problem with the road getting there.

I'm interested in hearing what the locals have to say, since we might be visiting again.
