Isle of Palms beach

We have a four year old who loves the beach, she is happy with the beach and a pool. Which beach is more family friendly? IOP or Folly Field? We prefer a more laid back beach, not so commercialized, less people.

Both Folly Beach and Isle of Palms are largely residential and both will have more people on weekends than during the week. Are you coming in summer? Hotel, house, or condo?

We typically like a private home oceanfront with a pool.

Usually vacation the first week of October. Always have gone to Hilton Head how does it compare?

No gated communities on Folly, one gated community Wild Dunes on IOP. October is a great month to visit. The oceanfront homes on IOP can be large.

Have you looked at pictures?

We usually rent something larger than we need in order to get oceanfront, paying usually 4000.00 weekly. This would include pool heat.

I would say Isle of Palms. We've stayed there three times, but decided to take a detour out to Folly Beach to check it out... Hands down, both car fulls decided we liked Isle of Palms better for the simple space between the houses. Simply stated, they aren't "reach out and touch your neighbor", which we've found also translates to "reach out and touch your neighbor" on the beach as well.

I would suggest you look at Wild Dunes, or one of the rental places ... Beachside, Resortquest, etc. Reason being, you're looking at going in October. If it's a colder fall, Wild Dunes does have 1 heated pool... it's $10 a day, but with a little one, if it's a cold week, you'll be grateful to have access to that pool.

If you're in Wild Dunes, they also have all kinds of things going on during the week, family movies on the pavilion (which overlooks the beach), kids events, beach excursions.

There are many large, ocean front homes on the rest of the island as well, not just in Wild Dunes. Some of them have pools. None of the SC beaches are going to have lots of people in Oct. The Isle of Palms has the proximity of historic downtown Charleston as a big bonus over Hilton Head. Fantastic restaurants, many historic sites to tour if you are so inclined, aquarium (which the little one will like), a children's museum (lots of activities for a child her age). All approx 20 min from the island.

We have vacationed for many years in North Myrtle Beach and while we love it, would like to give another area a try. We were thinking of something more south than the Outer Banks, due to traveling in late June and our desire for warmer weather. My husband hit upon Isle of Palms. I have no clue about the area; is it family friendly (we would be traveling with 16 - 17 year olds).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Very family friendly, 20 min away from the downtown historic district of Charleston with all that it offers in historic locations, museums, restaurants, etc. 10 min from Mt. Pleasant with movie theaters, restaurants, shopping, etc. I live on IOP year round.
