Garden City Beach

Family considering Garden City Beach as site for 2009 family vacation. We are looking at private homes along South Waccamaw Drive. Seeking comments regarding the area, driving time to MB, attractions, things to do, dining, etc.

1. Re: Garden City Beach

Stayed in Garden City in May. Not the same as a summer visit. Very clean area. Few if any big resort/condo complexes.

Garden City Pier right in center at Atlantic Ave and Waccamaw. Live band(s) nightly. Very small amusement park nearby.

Lots of dining in Garden City/Murrell's Inlet area.

Very short hop to Huntington State Park, Brookgreen Gardens and Pawley Island Hammock Shops.

Going out on a limb but will say 1/2 hour to hub of MB. Either stay on Rt 17 business or out through woods to 17 by-pass. About the same drive time.

Garden City is about 12 miles south of downtown Myrtle Beach.Lots of restaurants in the Surfside, Garden City and Murrells Inlet (seafood capital of SC) area. Anywhere you go you will have to drive.

Nearby includes Brookgreen Gardens, Inlet Square Mall w/cinema, mini golf courses,etc..

Anything you want to do is within 12-15 miles.

In Myrtle Beach you have the MB Pelicans (Braves farm team), Ripleys Aquarium, Famiy Kingdon (rides for familes and younger children), Hard Rock Park, Waccatee Zoo, malls, lots of restaurants.

Thanks for the info. I assume the beaches are somewhat less populated during 4th July week than MB or NMB areas. We would arrive on Saturday June 27th. Have stayed in MB area several times, but has been near or in Kingston Plantation.

Would be arriving from I-95 Florence, Hwy 501, then, assume must travel through Conway, then take SR 544 into Surfside/Garden City area????? Can we expect heavy traffic having to travel this direction?
