I'm planning a family reunion in Myrtle Beach in August. Just wanted to know how the crowds are on the beach and at restaurants, shops, etc. Thanks.
Our family was in MB the last week of August. We never waited anywhere we went. However, I believe the first couple weeks of August in MB are more crowded than the last couple weeks. June and July are the busiest months.
Many rates drop after August 9 and crowds do get lighter. Yes, it's also hurricane season but in the nearly 20 years we've been going we never that stop us. At least with hurricanes you get ample warning. Your humidity can be a bit higher but the ocean breezes will help with that. We always go the last 2 weeks of August and love the weather, even when it's hot!
The beaches are less crowded as are the waits at restaurants.
Much will depend upon what area of Myrtle Beach you are planning on holding your reunion. Some areas are often more crowded than others just due to proximity of accommodations.
Good luck with your event! MB is a great place for reunions!
The last week of August is a great time to go! The weather is still wonderful and it is less crowded. I used to go the week before school started which was usually the first week in August and it was still pretty busy. The later you go in August the better it will be!
We went 3rd week of August this past year & it was a great time. We found traffic to be lighter & restaurants less crowded than mid-summer. Might also have been due to the economy but I think many families are getting ready for back-to-school. Some schools have even already started.
I know that mostly all public schools in South Carolina go back the 3rd week in August. So, yes you will find MB less crowded for sure!!
You can find the best rates for the last 2 weeks in August because of this! Good luck in your search and always check VRBO for the best prices! You will be amazed at what you can save!! :)
The later you go in August the less people are there.
