Hi! I want to go to Myrtle the 1st week of Sept but I am worried about jellyfish. Are they a problem in Sept?
We'll continue to see some jellyfish through September and until the water cools down in late Fall. The numbers depend greatly on prevailing currents, recent storms, etc. The vast majority of the jellyfish we get around here are "jellyballs" or cannonball jellyfish. They don't have tentacles and are not really a problem. Serious stings are a very rare problem, but if it concerns you, take a spray bottle of vinegar with you to the beach. Here's a helpful article from SC Dept of Nat'l Resources: dnr.sc.gov/marine/pub/seascience/jellyfi.html
